Welcome, friend—I’m glad you’ve pulled up a chair on the front porch of my little corner of the internet. My name is Michael Joe Harvell, and I live my life with one simple mission: to glorify God, encourage people, and leave this world a little better than I found it. I’m a husband, father, pastor, writer, Jeep enthusiast, and front-porch thinker who believes that life is best lived on purpose. I serve as pastor of Eureka Baptist Church in Anderson, South Carolina, where I get the joy of preaching, teaching, and walking with people through the ups and downs of everyday life. Over the years, I’ve discovered that faith isn’t just about Sunday mornings—it’s about living every single day in the presence and power of God. I’m also an author. My books—including The Grace Exchange: How Forgiven People Forgive People and The Word Works—grow out of the sermons, stories, and lessons I’ve learned on this journey. I write in a style that’s conversational, a little front-porch-rocking-chair, and full of stories, quotes, and Scripture that point us back to the goodness of God’s Word. When I’m not writing or preaching, you might find me sitting outside with my Bible and journal, cruising the backroads in my Jeep Gladiator, or sharing a meal and some laughs with the good folks God has put in my life. I love helping people find peace in their spirit, strength in their body, and encouragement in their soul. This blog is simply an extension of that mission. Here you’ll find devotions, encouragement, reflections, and practical insights for living a life of purpose, peace, and joy. So grab a cup of coffee, pull up a rocking chair, and stay awhile—I’d be honored to walk this road of faith with you.
Small things have the ability to change our lives in big ways. Here is a very small thing that will change your life in a very big way, if you will take it serious, give it some thought and follow through! I pray you do and hope you will share your success!
Seriously take the time to finish this sentence:
“I can’t _______________, but I can ________________!”
Let go of what you can’t do and do what you can. Don’t wait, do it now and do it for God’s glory! G3!
“Four things a man must learn to do If he would make his life more true: To think without confusion clearly, To love his fellow-man sincerely, To act from honest motives purely, To trust in God and Heaven securely.” -Reverend Henery Van Dyke
Think Clearly! This is easier said than done, but it is still very much worth the effort. We need to see and understand things as they really are. Too many people are living life either in a dream or a nightmare. Some live in a dream, never ever taking the time to see things as they really are and others are living in a nightmare, always seeing things worse than they are! We need to learn to live in reality and deal with whatever we have in front of us. If God has allowed it to be there, then He has provided what we need to deal with and learn from it!
Love In Your Heart! The sad reality of the world we live in today, is that for most people, love is just a word that we casually fling around to try and move people in our direction. For love to be real, it must be from the heart, something that we feel deep inside of ourselves that is not controlled by what someone does or doesn’t do. Real love is looking for nothing in return!
Be Honest! I think one of the reasons that this is so hard now a days, is because most of us are not even honest with ourselves. We don’t know the truth because we can’t or don’t want to handle the truth. When you know the truth, it will set you free and freedom is a very special place to live!
Trust In God! I would not even want to imagine trying to do life without faith! Faith allows me to trust and trust opens all kinds of door for me to grow, become and fulfill my created calling. My trust is not just in anything or anybody, but in God – my Creator and Sustainer! My trust in Him is rewarded with direction, purpose and fulfillment.
If we will learn to do these four things, they will make a difference in our lives and our living will have an impact on the lives of those around us! G3!
When we decide to live our lives here on this earth for God and His glory. The enemy does not like that and will do everything that he can to mess up our plans! He is sneaky and slick, so be careful and pay attention, because he will be coming after you! (The good news is: YOU DON”T HAVE TO BE AFRAID!)
I have heard great reports from almost every where about yesterday’s Easter Celebrations! There just seems to be a real good spirit with everybody and everything! I saw a lot of smiling faces and a good many tears shed as we thought about what God has done, is doing and will do for us. And I believe that it encouraged all of us to think about what we can do for God.
I also know that when the Spirit fires us up about doing things for God, that the devil is not going to be too far behind. In fact, I am already getting reports that he is hitting and hitting hard, but do not get discouraged and do not give up, because God is on the Throne and in complete control!
The best way to fight the enemy is with God’s Word! Here are a few Scriptures to remind you of the obvious!
Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord …”
Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Romans 8:38-39 “For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers … nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
James 4:7 ” … Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
1 John 4:4 “You … have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.
