Welcome, friend—I’m glad you’ve pulled up a chair on the front porch of my little corner of the internet. My name is Michael Joe Harvell, and I live my life with one simple mission: to glorify God, encourage people, and leave this world a little better than I found it. I’m a husband, father, pastor, writer, Jeep enthusiast, and front-porch thinker who believes that life is best lived on purpose. I serve as pastor of Eureka Baptist Church in Anderson, South Carolina, where I get the joy of preaching, teaching, and walking with people through the ups and downs of everyday life. Over the years, I’ve discovered that faith isn’t just about Sunday mornings—it’s about living every single day in the presence and power of God. I’m also an author. My books—including The Grace Exchange: How Forgiven People Forgive People and The Word Works—grow out of the sermons, stories, and lessons I’ve learned on this journey. I write in a style that’s conversational, a little front-porch-rocking-chair, and full of stories, quotes, and Scripture that point us back to the goodness of God’s Word. When I’m not writing or preaching, you might find me sitting outside with my Bible and journal, cruising the backroads in my Jeep Gladiator, or sharing a meal and some laughs with the good folks God has put in my life. I love helping people find peace in their spirit, strength in their body, and encouragement in their soul. This blog is simply an extension of that mission. Here you’ll find devotions, encouragement, reflections, and practical insights for living a life of purpose, peace, and joy. So grab a cup of coffee, pull up a rocking chair, and stay awhile—I’d be honored to walk this road of faith with you.

Morning!

Good Morning!

Sleep is gone!   A new day awakes!
Darkness is chased away by light revealing a kaleidoscope of colors.
The sleepy sounds of night have gone and the sounds of productivity have come alive.
Eyes open, mind engages and the work of life begins.
Life is lived, goals are accomplished and memories are made.

Night!

Good Night!

Work is done!  Day is coming to an end.
The bright light of day changes colors and eventually turns dark.
The unseen sounds of the night come alive and sing a lullaby of sleep.
Eyes close and dream allows the unseen to be seen.
Life is lived, victories won and challenges are overcome.

More Than An Acquaintance!

He Knows You!

People like to say they know God, when the truth for most is they know about God!  I accepted Christ as my Savior at a very young age.  It was simple for me as a kid.  I knew I was a sinner and that I could not save myself and the only way for me to experience what I had been taught at Church from God’s Word was in a relationship with God that comes through Jesus Christ!  I did not understand incarnation, transformation and transfiguration, but I did understand my need and what God had done to meet my need, so I opened up my heart and invited Jesus into my life to be my Savior and Lord.

As I got older, I wanted to grow closer to God, some how I just knew it was possible and I wanted it.  We had a youth minister at our church, who took a chance on some of us who were not yet teenagers.  He taught us using Barry St. Clairs’ Discipleship Bible Study and it change my life!  As I studied this material, I started to have a personal time with God, which I have continued from then until now.  It was during this personal time with God, that I learned how to listen and hear from the Holy Spirit.  It was during this time that I began to read the Scriptures and things would jump off the page and grab the attention of my heart!  It was during this time that I really started to get to know God!

I know God!  He is a friend of mine!  I do not go around bragging, because I don’t want people to think I am on some kind of ego trip, but maybe I really should not be so concerned with what others think.  I know God and He knows me.  We talk.  He tells me things and reveals to me His will.  It really is pretty amazing!

The most amazing thing is that you can know Him too!  There is nothing special about me that grants me access.  In fact, there are a lot more people in this world that are more worthy to know God.  The reason that I know Him is because He invited me into relationship and pretend was not good enough for me, so I jumped all in!

God knows you and you can know Him!  Step out in faith – you will be glad you did!
