What Does Your Heart Love Most?

“And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” -Deuteronomy 6:5 (KJV)

Let me ask you something.

What if the greatest problem in your life is not that you love the wrong things, but that you have allowed good things to take the place that belongs to God?

Deuteronomy 6:5 does not merely tell us to believe in God. It calls us to love Him with everything we are.

Our heart.

Our soul.

Our strength.

Because whatever has your deepest love will eventually have your greatest influence.

If you love approval most, criticism will control your peace.

If you love success most, failure will shake your identity.

If you love comfort most, suffering will make you bitter.

And even good things can become dangerous when we expect them to give us what only God can give.

But this is where the gospel meets us with hope.

God did not simply command us to love Him. He loved us first.

Jesus loved the Father perfectly where we have failed. Then He went to the cross and gave Himself completely for sinners like us.

That means Christianity is not about pretending to love God more than you do. It is about looking long enough at the love of God in Christ that your heart begins to respond.

The cross shows you that God is not asking for your whole heart because He wants to take something from you. He is calling you back to the One who made you, knows you, and gave Himself for you.

And when God becomes your greatest love, everything else begins to find its proper place.

You can enjoy success without worshiping it.

You can love people without being ruled by their approval.

You can walk through loss without losing your hope.

So today, do not only ask, “Do I believe in God?”

Ask the deeper question:

“What does my heart love most?”

Then look again at Jesus.

Because the more clearly you see His love for you, the more freely you will learn to love Him with all your heart, all your soul, and all your might.
