Don’t miss the “teachable moments” today! God will teach you through the circumstances of life and use you to teach others! In Matthew 5:1-12 we find Jesus going up on a mountain and his disciples following and right there is the secret to taking advantage of teachable moments! We must be willing to follow!
The reason so many of us often miss out on and fail to take advantage of teachable moments is because we have trouble with following. Our trouble is – we are not willing to follow or we are following the wrong leader. We all need leadership – you cannot do life and do it right by yourself! God created us to do life in partnership with Him and one another. We need to make sure that we are following the right leader, because not just any leader will do. You can’t go wrong in following Jesus! He loves you and given his life for you and desires for you to grow and be blessed!
Another problem that we will encounter in following is when we become overly concerned with where we are going. If you have a good leader, you do not have to be worried about where he is taking you, because if he is a good leader, he will be taking you exactly where you need to be going. This is exactly what Jesus does with us in the Beatitudes – he leads us to exactly where we need to be going.
Make the choice today to follow Jesus! Make the choice to be the attitudes that he is talking about! Make the choice to not waste, but take advantage of the “teachable moments!”
What’s it been …. a little over 2000 years since Jesus shared the Beatitudes with us and we still can’t get it the way He wants us too? My 23 year old son and I where just talking about and reading in God’s Word together three nights ago about the Beatitudes. Christian was having one of those moments when he was looking to God for comfort in his time of grief from having to bury his Grandpa a couple of weeks ago. It was amazing to watch, it seemed like that’s all it took then all of a sudden he was just fine. I spoke with some other people while we were in NC this past weekend and figured out as a culture and a people we are no closer to putting our stupid childish ways away. From time to time I think I’m O.K. with the sense of entitlement that some of us believe we have. People just don’t get it, and I’m in the boat with everyone else, we are owed nothing, but if we are what we say we are (Christians) we OWE EVERYTHING! Is there anything we have that is good enough that makes it worth what Christ willingly giving His all for just one us? That harder judgmental side of me says Absolutely No Way, and then I try to listen to God, and when I do I know the answer is Yes, our souls! That’s when I also know, it sure is great God is running things and not me or we’d all have no hope just because of the way we sometimes act. It is my humble opinion that we all could stand a daily dose of the Beatitudes, I may be alone on this one, but that’s O.K. I’ll keep trying to get it right despite my lack of the right attitude with the Beatitudes, God loves us all anyway.
