Welcome, friend—I’m glad you’ve pulled up a chair on the front porch of my little corner of the internet. My name is Michael Joe Harvell, and I live my life with one simple mission: to glorify God, encourage people, and leave this world a little better than I found it. I’m a husband, father, pastor, writer, Jeep enthusiast, and front-porch thinker who believes that life is best lived on purpose. I serve as pastor of Eureka Baptist Church in Anderson, South Carolina, where I get the joy of preaching, teaching, and walking with people through the ups and downs of everyday life. Over the years, I’ve discovered that faith isn’t just about Sunday mornings—it’s about living every single day in the presence and power of God. I’m also an author. My books—including The Grace Exchange: How Forgiven People Forgive People and The Word Works—grow out of the sermons, stories, and lessons I’ve learned on this journey. I write in a style that’s conversational, a little front-porch-rocking-chair, and full of stories, quotes, and Scripture that point us back to the goodness of God’s Word. When I’m not writing or preaching, you might find me sitting outside with my Bible and journal, cruising the backroads in my Jeep Gladiator, or sharing a meal and some laughs with the good folks God has put in my life. I love helping people find peace in their spirit, strength in their body, and encouragement in their soul. This blog is simply an extension of that mission. Here you’ll find devotions, encouragement, reflections, and practical insights for living a life of purpose, peace, and joy. So grab a cup of coffee, pull up a rocking chair, and stay awhile—I’d be honored to walk this road of faith with you.

God Has Made A Way!

“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6 (KJV)

There is something honest about this verse that speaks to every heart. It reminds us that none of us has walked perfectly. We have all had moments when we wandered, moments when we chose our own way instead of God’s way. Like sheep, we sometimes drift without realizing how far we’ve gone.

But this verse is not meant to discourage you, it is meant to remind you of how deeply you are loved.

Notice what it says: “The Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”

God did not ignore our wandering… and He did not abandon us in it. Instead, He placed our sin, our mistakes, our failures, and our brokenness upon Jesus.

That means your past is not greater than His grace. Your mistakes are not stronger than His mercy. Your wandering is not final, because Jesus came to bring you home.

The Good Shepherd does not stand at a distance shaking His head. He comes looking for His sheep. He calls your name. He lifts the burden you were never meant to carry alone.

Today, if you feel like you’ve drifted… if you feel like you’ve missed the path… remember this: Jesus already carried what you are worried about. The weight has already been placed on Him.

You don’t have to stay lost.

You don’t have to stay burdened.

You don’t have to stay stuck in yesterday.

Grace is calling you back.

Take a step toward Him today. Even a small step matters. Because every step toward Jesus is a step toward peace, forgiveness, and restoration.

You may have wandered… but you are not forgotten.

You Are Loved!

John 3:16 is one of the most familiar verses in all of Scripture, but sometimes the most familiar truths are the ones we most need to be reminded of.

Jesus said, “For God so loved the world…”

Think about that for a moment. The Bible does not say God tolerated the world. It does not say God put up with the world. It says God loved the world. And that includes you.

God’s love is not based on your performance. It is not dependent on your past. It is not limited by your mistakes. His love reaches beyond your failures, beyond your doubts, beyond your fears.

“And gave His only begotten Son…”

Love gives. Love sacrifices. Love makes a way.

God did not just say He loved you — He proved it. He gave His Son so that your sin could be forgiven, your guilt could be removed, and your future could be secure.

“That whosoever believeth in Him…”

That means anyone. Everyone. No exclusions. No exceptions. No one is too far gone. No one is beyond grace. No one is outside the reach of God’s mercy.

“Should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

That is hope. That is assurance. That is the promise of eternity with Him.

Today, rest in this truth: you are loved more than you realize, valued more than you know, and pursued by a God who refused to give up on you.

You may feel overlooked by people, but you are never overlooked by God.

You may feel uncertain about tomorrow, but your eternity is secure in Christ.

God’s love is not temporary.

God’s love is not fragile.

God’s love is forever.

And according to John 3:16, that love has your name on it.

Let Your Light Shine!

Matthew 5:16 (KJV) says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

There is something powerful about a light in a dark place. You do not have to beg people to notice it. You do not have to argue with the darkness. Light simply does what light was created to do, it shines.

Jesus did not tell us to create the light. He told us to let it shine.

That means the light is already there. When Christ came into your life, He placed His light within you. His grace lights the way. His love changes how you treat people. His truth shapes how you live. His presence shines through ordinary people who are simply willing to live faithfully.

You may feel like what you do is small. A kind word. A quiet prayer. An act of integrity when no one else is looking. Encouraging someone who is discouraged. Forgiving when it would be easier to hold a grudge. Standing firm when compromise would be easier.

But every small act of obedience becomes a reflection of a great Savior.

You may never know who is watching your life. Someone may be finding hope because you chose faith. Someone may be learning about grace because you showed mercy. Someone may be seeing Jesus more clearly because you chose to live differently.

The purpose of the light is not to draw attention to itself, but to point people to the One who lit the flame.

So do not hide what God has placed within you. Do not dim the light to blend in with the crowd. The world does not need less light—it needs more.

Shine in your home. Shine in your church. Shine in your workplace. Shine in the quiet places where no one applauds.

And as you do, people will not just see you—they will see Him.

Let your light shine today. Someone needs the hope that God has placed inside your life
