How To Become A Child Of God!

Received, Believed… and Became

John 1:12 (KJV)

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”

There is a beautiful simplicity in this verse that meets us right where we are.

It does not say, “as many as achieved,” or “as many as cleaned themselves up.”

It says, “as many as received Him.”

Salvation is not about performance… it is about a Person.

You receive Him.

That word “received” means to welcome, to take hold of, to make room for. It is the picture of opening the door of your life and saying, “Jesus, come in.” Not just as a visitor, but as Lord.

And then it says, “to them gave He power…”

That word “power” is not about strength to try harder. It is authority. It is the right, the privilege, the legal standing to become something you could never be on your own.

“The sons of God.”

Think about that. When you receive Christ, you are not just forgiven… you are adopted. You are brought into the family of God. You are given a new identity.

And how does it happen?

“…even to them that believe on His name.”

Not believe about Him… believe on Him. Trust Him. Lean your life on Him. Place your full weight on who He is and what He has done.

Here is the truth this morning…

You do not become a child of God by trying harder.

You become a child of God by trusting deeper.

Have you received Him?

If you have, then you are not who you used to be. You are His. You belong to Him. You are part of His family.

And if you have not, the door is still open.

Prayer:

Father, thank You that salvation is not something we earn, but something we receive. Help us to trust fully in Jesus, to rest in who He is, and to live in the identity You have given us as Your children. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
