You can tell a lot about a tree by the fruit hanging from its branches. And my friend, people can tell a lot about what is happening in our hearts by the fruit hanging from our lives.

Galatians 5:22–23 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

Have you ever noticed that Paul calls it the “fruit” of the Spirit, not the “work” of the Spirit?

Fruit doesn’t appear because a tree struggles harder.

Fruit grows because the tree is connected to the right source.

And that is important for us to remember.

Sometimes we try so hard to make ourselves more loving, more patient, more peaceful, and more self-controlled. We grit our teeth and promise ourselves, “Tomorrow I’m going to do better.”

But God never intended for us to manufacture the Christian life in our own strength.

He wants us to walk with Him.

The closer you walk with Jesus, the more His character begins to show up in your life.

You start loving people you once found difficult to love.

You discover joy even when everything isn’t going your way.

You find peace in situations that used to keep you awake at night.

You become a little more patient, a little more gentle, and a little slower to react.

Not because you suddenly became perfect, but because the Holy Spirit is producing something in you that you could never produce by yourself.

An apple tree doesn’t need a sign hanging on it saying, “I’m an apple tree.”

The fruit tells the story.

And eventually, the fruit of our lives should tell people Who we belong to.

So today, don’t get discouraged because you’re not where you want to be yet.

Stay connected to Jesus.

Keep walking in the Spirit.

Keep letting God work on your heart.

You may not see all the growth happening beneath the surface, but if you stay connected to the Source, the fruit will come.

God isn’t finished with you yet.

He’s still working.

He’s still growing.

And He’s still producing something beautiful in your life.

So keep walking with Jesus, my friend.
