“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 (KJV)
Friend, one of the greatest lies the devil tells us is this: “You’ve messed up too badly this time. God is finished with you.” But 1 John 1:9 reminds us that nothing could be further from the truth.
Notice the verse does not say if we perform better or if we earn our way back. It simply says, “If we confess our sins.” Confession means agreeing with God about our sin, bringing it into the light, and turning our hearts back toward Him.
And what does God do? He is faithful. He does not forgive reluctantly. He does not hold grudges. He does not remind us forever of our failures. He forgives, and He cleanses. That means He washes away not only the guilt but also the stain of sin.
Maybe you’ve stumbled recently. Maybe you’ve said things you wish you could take back or made choices you regret. Listen carefully: failure does not have to be the end of your story. God’s grace is greater than your mistakes.
The cross of Jesus is proof that mercy is available to all who come to Him with a humble heart. So don’t run from God in your shame. Run to Him in repentance.
Today can be a fresh start. Confess it. Leave it at the feet of Jesus. Receive His forgiveness, walk in His grace, and remember this: God is not looking for perfect people. He delights in restoring repentant hearts.
