I like to watch people! I have gotten pretty good at watching people and they are often not even aware that I am watching. I can practice my observation even when I am engaged in other activity. I enjoy observation – really seeing what is going on in and around me. There is so much to learn from the actions, reactions and inaction of ourselves and others.
You can learn from both positive and negative actions! I want to share one of the things that I have been reminded of this week, as I have been practicing my observation even while serving!
This week, I was reminded that there is always something to do and always an opportunity to help! We are having Vacation Bible School at Northwood this week and it always amazes me that there are two groups of people: Those that are looking for something to do and those that are totally oblivious to the fact that there are plenty of “somethings” to do! I watched as many men, women, boys and girls stepped up and stepped in to help in any and every way that they could. (Thank you so much for your hard work, dedication and sacrifice – you inspire me! REALLY!)
And then I observed a small handful that continues to sit back and do nothing. I guess that they have convinced themselves that it is their job to just be here and critique or maybe ask dumb questions! (Thanks for the help! NOT REALLY!)
There is something for everyone to do. It may be taking the time to get down on your knees and have a conversation with a four-year old. It may be to take out the garbage that is overflowing. It may be to serve someone who is serving. If you observe – God will show you a way to serve Him by serving others!
Thanks for the reminders – gang!
