What’s Better Than Happiness?

Remember the television show Hee Haw with Buck Owens and Roy Clark? They used to have a bit on the show where four miserable looking fellows would sing a song called “Gloom, Despair And Agony On Me!” The first line went something like this:

“Gloom, despair, and agony on me
Deep, dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all
Gloom, despair, and agony on me”

This is the world we live in for a lot of people today. Our lives have become filled with stress, anxiety and over thinking. We often find ourselves caught up in the overwhelming feelings of frustration, depression and discontentment. This mental fatigue leads to all sorts of physical problems such as stomach problems, high blood pressure, headaches and muscle problems. This is not the life we were created for. I promise you – you were created for so much more!

While there is not an easy fix and no cure all potion, there are things we can do to help facilitate peace in our lives, which contributes to the harmony that brings balance and allows us to live with intention, rather than by happen stance.

I hear people say all the time: “I just want to be happy!” Did you know there is something better than happiness and it’s what you were created for? You may not always be happy, because some things go your way and some things don’t. Life does not always flow in the direction you choose, and this has a tendency to impact if we are happy or not. And while you can’t always be happy, you can always have joy. Joy is what you were created for, it is your human experience birthrite. You were created in joy and for joy. When you realize this and believe this, it helps you to stay in step with your created purpose and automatically helps you to be in a better place to fulfill your dreams and experience your desires.

Joy tells me that even when things are not going the way I want them to, that there is still a purpose and if I will trust in that purpose and keep a right attitude, life will adjust and come around to where it needs to be. In the Old Testament book of Proverbs 17:22 says: “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Joy says: “I am just happy to be alive with another day of opportunity to experience blessings.” Joy helps you to focus on what you do have, rather than what you don’t have. Joy helps you to understand that feelings are just that – feelings and you ultimately have the power to choose how you are going to feel.

Whenever you find yourself getting out of alignment, take a moment to step outside all of it and remind yourself: I am joy, I was created in joy and for joy. Joy is what I was born for, it belongs to me and I belong to it. Joy helps me see things more clearly, experience things more honestly and grow through things that would normally try to take me out.

Is It Worth It?

Questions have the ability to be very powerful in our lives if we are willing to use them in the right way. In order for us to use a question in the right way, we must first be willing to take the time to ask and answer the question and this will require some thought, which will cost us some time.

This morning I was thinking about my life and living through the years. I was thinking about some of the successes I have experienced and some of the failures I have survived. I started to think about what was it that helped me to succeed and what was it that caused me to fail? All of this thinking ultimately led me to a place of asking the question in my mind: “IS IT WORTH IT?”

And to be real honest, success or failure, it has all been worth it, because even when I have failed, I have learned something, survived something and the fact that it did not kill me is a great education. That does not mean that there are things that I wouldn’t change or do differently, because they most certainly are, but that choice is based on what I have learned and I may not have learned it, if I hadn’t gone through it, so???

There is great power in questions. And have you ever noticed how simple questions, often grow into complicated, profound and life changing questions, if we toil with them long enough? I mean think about this one “4 word question” and the power it has to shape our lives, if we would just use it consistently and honestly to evaluate the direction, purpose and decisions of our moment by moment daily living.

So whatever you are facing, if you really want to find fulfillment and experience happiness, I think this is a question we need to ask and answer in order to best guide the direction of our decision making. Here’s the question: ‘IS IT WORTH IT?”

I mean think about it and you will realize this question applies to about everything we will ever face or have to deal with. Should I eat the piece of cake after dinner? Do I give up on my dream relationship and move on to someone or something else? Do I take the promotion? Do we buy the house? Do I really need the car? Should I buy the outfit? And on and on we can go with all of the questions of life that are asked, but very often left unanswered.

“IS IT WORTH IT?” has the power to make us think. It has the power to make us take the time to process and really make a decision rather than just bounce through life like the little steel ball in a pinball machine.

I challenge you to take some time to think about some of the questions you need to think through in your life. In fact why not take out your journal and dedicate a page to writing down questions that you need to give some time and space to? With those questions in hand and in mind, now begin to ask yourself: IS IT WORTH IT? I think you will really be surprised at the clarity this will bring, if you will just be honest with yourself. And I think it’s much more effective to ask “Is it worth it?” on the front end, rather than “Was it worth it?” on the back end. Give it a try and see if it doesn’t make a difference, I mean – IS IT WORTH IT?

Seven Steps To Experience Divine Repair!

Here are the seven steps that we each need to take, so that the Spirit can begin the process of “Divine Repair” upon our lives…

1.) Face Your Problem!  We all have problems,  Figure out what your problem is and then face it.  This is the first and most important step.  Stop pretending that you don’t have any problems.  Once you face your problems, you will begin to see what you need to do about it, now do it!

2.) Accept Responsibility!  While there may be others that contributed to the problems that you are facing, it is still your problem and you must bear the responsibility.  This is not necessarily easy, but it is right.  If things are going to be better, then it is because you have decided they are going to be better.

3.)  Ask Yourself If You Really Want Healing?  They say “misery loves company” and I guess that this is true for a great many people.  But why be miserable, when you can be happy, strong and fulfilled?  You have to decide if you really want to be happy and if you do, then you have to go all in and go for it!

4.) Forgive Yourself!  Stop beating yourself up with the same club over and over again. We all make mistakes and we all screw up at this thing called life.  If we learn from our screw ups, then they are not screw ups, they are education.  So you messed up, learn from it, let it go and move on.

5.) Forgive Others!  You can live in the prison of unforgiveness or you can live in the freedom of holding no grudges, it is up to you.  Just know this:  If you stay imprisoned, it is because you have made the choice to not claim your freedom by withholding forgiveness that sets everyone free.

6.) Ask For The Spirit’s Help!  You are not supposed to do this alone, because you can’t do this alone, so ask the Spirit to help you.  The Spirit will speak to you, guide you and grow you to a place that you cannot take yourself.  You need the Spirits help!

7.) Don’t Give Up!  If it was easy, then everyone would do it.  It’s not easy, but it is possible and with the possibility comes a new and better life.  Step out in faith and claim your better and blessed life today, you will be glad you did!
