Welcome, friend—I’m glad you’ve pulled up a chair on the front porch of my little corner of the internet. My name is Michael Joe Harvell, and I live my life with one simple mission: to glorify God, encourage people, and leave this world a little better than I found it. I’m a husband, father, pastor, writer, Jeep enthusiast, and front-porch thinker who believes that life is best lived on purpose. I serve as pastor of Eureka Baptist Church in Anderson, South Carolina, where I get the joy of preaching, teaching, and walking with people through the ups and downs of everyday life. Over the years, I’ve discovered that faith isn’t just about Sunday mornings—it’s about living every single day in the presence and power of God. I’m also an author. My books—including The Grace Exchange: How Forgiven People Forgive People and The Word Works—grow out of the sermons, stories, and lessons I’ve learned on this journey. I write in a style that’s conversational, a little front-porch-rocking-chair, and full of stories, quotes, and Scripture that point us back to the goodness of God’s Word. When I’m not writing or preaching, you might find me sitting outside with my Bible and journal, cruising the backroads in my Jeep Gladiator, or sharing a meal and some laughs with the good folks God has put in my life. I love helping people find peace in their spirit, strength in their body, and encouragement in their soul. This blog is simply an extension of that mission. Here you’ll find devotions, encouragement, reflections, and practical insights for living a life of purpose, peace, and joy. So grab a cup of coffee, pull up a rocking chair, and stay awhile—I’d be honored to walk this road of faith with you.

Your Story Is Still Being Written!

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” -Hebrews 12:2

Life has a way of pulling our eyes in a hundred different directions.

We look at problems. We look at pressure. We look at pain. We look at uncertainty. But Hebrews 12:2 reminds us where our focus belongs — looking unto Jesus.

Jesus is not only the One who started your faith, He is the One who will finish it. He is the Author and the Finisher. That means what God begins, God completes.

Jesus endured the cross because He could see beyond the suffering. He saw the joy on the other side. He saw redemption. He saw victory. He saw you.

Sometimes the road feels long. Sometimes the weight feels heavy. Sometimes the struggle feels personal. But when we fix our eyes on Jesus, we are reminded that the story is not over yet.

There is still purpose ahead. There is still grace available. There is still strength for the journey.

The same Savior who carried the cross now carries you.

So today, lift your eyes above the noise. Look past the distractions. Look beyond the temporary.

Look unto Jesus.

Because when your focus is on Him, your faith finds strength, your heart finds peace, and your future finds hope.

Stay steady. Stay faithful. Stay focused.

Jesus is still writing your story.

Steps To Greatness!

“Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” -Matthew 20:28

There is something powerful about a life that is lived for others.

Jesus, the King of Kings, did not come demanding attention, applause, or recognition. He came with a towel over His arm, ready to serve. He came with compassion in His eyes and sacrifice in His heart. He did not climb a throne first… He climbed a cross.

That tells us something important about greatness.

In God’s kingdom, greatness is not measured by how many people serve you, but by how many people you serve. It is not found in position, popularity, or prestige. It is found in humility. It is found in kindness. It is found in giving your life away in ways both big and small.

Every encouraging word you speak matters.

Every prayer you pray for someone else matters.

Every quiet act of kindness matters.

You may never stand on a stage. You may never receive public recognition. But heaven sees every act of love done in the name of Christ.

Jesus did not just tell us how to live… He showed us how to live.

And when you choose to serve, you are never more like Jesus than in that moment.

Live today looking for someone to bless.

Serve someone who cannot repay you.

Love someone who needs encouragement.

Because a life poured out for others is never wasted.

Evening Ride!

There is something about an evening ride that feels like a quiet conversation between the soul and the Savior.

The road stretches ahead, the sun settles low, and the noise of the day begins to fade into the background. The golden light reminds us that even endings can be beautiful. The same God who gives us the strength to begin also gives us the grace to finish.

Out here, with the wind moving gently and the world slowing down, it becomes easier to remember what really matters. Problems don’t seem quite as large. Worries don’t seem quite as heavy. Perspective has a way of finding us when we give God a little space to speak.

Every mile becomes a reminder that life is a journey, not a sprint. Every sunset whispers that tomorrow is already on the way.

Sometimes the Lord meets us in church pews.
Sometimes He meets us on front porches.
And sometimes… He meets us on a quiet stretch of road at the close of day.

Wherever you find yourself this evening, remember this: God is still guiding, still providing, still faithful… one mile at a time.

Enjoy the ride.
