Seven Steps To Living A Life Of Resilience!

One of my favorite series of movies is ROCKY. I love everyone of the movies and have passed that love to the rest of my family and especially my daughters. “Eye Of The Tiger – Girls – Eye OF The Tiger!” I think one of the reasons that so many of us love the Rocky movies is because it is the story of resilience, the ability to get knocked down, get back up and keep on going, no matter what.

Live your life long enough and you are going to get knocked down, but you can’t stay down, because that would not be much of a life would it? As I look back on my life, I have to admit, I have been down many times, but I never stay down, because some how, some where inside of me, my Creator placed a beautiful gift called resilience.

Resilience is about adapting, improvising and learning to overcome. Challenge is a natural part of life that becomes a problem for us, when we resist it. Rather than resisting challenge, we need to learn to embrace it. When we embrace challenge, we learn and grow from it.

At the end of the day, there are only a few things that really matter. Are you thriving or surviving, because God created us to thrive? Are you allowing the love to flow by receiving and sharing love? Are you learning and growing, because this life is all about getting ready for eternity? Are you laughing and enjoying the journey, because life really is a precious gift? We need to get it right, because we all have family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and even strangers that are looking to us for blessing, direction and hope.

Here Are Seven Steps To Living A Life Of Resilience:

1. RELAX! We really do need to learn to chill. I’m not saying that we should not take life seriously, but we don’t need to take ourselves too seriously. Chill out! Take a moment to breathe in, hold it, now breathe out! See, it’s not a big deal after all. I’ve got some very encouraging news for you: The success or failure of this world is not dependent upon you!

2. CHECK YOUR THINKING! There are so many different things that impact our thinking and if we are not careful, we will allow the wrong things, which will lead to stinking thinking. We need to continually check our thinking, where it’s coming from and where it’s going. If our thinking if not right, then we need to fix it.

3. LEARN FROM MISTAKES AND FAILURES! I’ve got some really good news for you. No one expects you to be perfect and if anyone does expect you to be perfect, then they are revealing their imperfection with such an unrealistic expectation. I have always said that if we will learn from a mistake, sin or failure, then it wasn’t a waste, it was an education and people pay big money for an education.

4. REMEMBER YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CHOOSE! You cannot choose for anyone else and no one else can choose for you, but you do have this amazing ability to choose for yourself, what you are going to believe and how you are going to react. Choose wisely!

5. PRACTICE FLEXIBILITY! There is a Japanese Proverb that says: “The bamboo that bends is stronger than the oak that resists.” We have to be flexible in this human experience if our Spirit is going to grow us into what we are called and created to be.

6. SET GOALS! Everyday is an opportunity to experience new and amazing things, but most of us miss the divine, because we allow ourselves to be distracted by stuff that really does not matter in the grand scheme of life. Take a look at your spiritual, mental and physical life and focus on becoming all that you were created to be.

7. GROW YOURSELF! Stop worrying about fixing everybody and everything else and make sure that you are the very best you that you can be, because at the end of the day, if we can get this right, then the promise is that God will take care of the rest.

Hands Down!

Have you ever been unfairly attacked? Have you ever had untrue rumors circulated around about you? Have you ever had those that you thought were your friends turn on you?

Live long enough and it probably in some way, shape or form happens to most of us. The real issue is not what others do or say, but how we respond to it.

There was a time in my life when I found myself at what was prehaps the most terrible time I’ve ever gone through, but it did not kill me, even though there were moments that I wanted it to. It did without doubt make me stronger and I think maybe a little wiser in the process…

Many years ago, I had a story to tell but chose to listen to the Spirit and keep it to myself. Many times since, I have been tempted to share my side, but have chosen again and again to listen instead to the Spirit. It was hard at first, not defending myself, not confronting the lies, not revealing the hypocrisy, but over time, I began to learn that my life is a work in progress and that learning from my mistakes, sins, and failures are the most important thing I can do with my time and the greatest way for me to give God glory and others hope.

I have never been a perfect person, but I am in a far better place today than I have ever been and it is because I have a God, Who loves me, family that walk with me, and friends who stand by me. I am not the past that others created and I am not the past of my own creation. Today I am who and what God created me to be at this time and place and so the best thing I can do, is learn from my past, enjoy my present and grow toward my future.

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14

My life today is full of blessing, peace, love, learning, laughter and grace. I still have such a long way to go and I am enjoying the journey more than ever before. I share this with you, because I want you to know that with God all things are possible, regardless of what anyone else says or thinks. Keep your focus on Him, your heart connected with His and your life will unfold to reveal amazing blessings…

What Do You Want?

If you want to get upset and mad at the world, you don’t have to look hard to find a reason. Motivation for madness is everywhere and easy to get a hold of. But life is so much better when we learn to choose happy over mad, sad or any of the other negative emotions that we might come up with.

‘Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” -Philippians 4:8

I can almost guarantee you that you will find more than enough reasons to get mad, upset, disgruntled, frustrated, disgusted and ticked. I am pretty sure that at some point in your day you will experience something that makes you angry and causes you to want to shift your focus off of the positive and onto looking for someone to accuse, blame and judge for why your life is not working the way you want to.

We have been given an incredible gift. The gift of choosing the world which we choose to live in. We can choose to live in a world of negativity and miss the incredible opportunities of blessing we were created for. Or we can live in the world of positivity and grab hold of and experience the fulfillment and blessing we were gifted for.

Do not waste this gift. Open it, enjoy it and share it. You will be glad you did…
