Let Go Of The Labels And Embrace The Life!

The world we grow up in teaches us to label one another. “She’s smart, he’s dumb.” They’re rich or they’re poor.” And we could get caught up in the comparison game forever if we are not careful. In fact, we spend the first 12 years of our life getting ready to go to school so we can learn and earn a degree that labels us as a High School Graduate, which is supposed to better prepare us to contribute, live and survive in this world, but often just causes us to live in a fantasy game of pretend and comparison.

We get used to this “labeling game” and determine that our worth comes either from what we do or more titles attached to our name, so we head off to work or for more school to earn as many more labels as we can, with the hopes that one of them sticks and makes us a success. We do all of this, only to get to the end of our life and realize that very few titles really matter and usually the titles that do matter are not ones that we earned, but the ones that we accidentally tripped into and learned to embrace.

I have had more titles than I know what to do with and I have earned several degrees, but no one calls me “Master”. I am quiet sure I have been labeled good and bad, depending on who is doing the labeling, but none of the labels, degrees or titles really define who and what I really am. In fact, most all of them limit me from the creative, expansive and majestic life I was created for.

“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 3:13-14

You are not what you are named, labeled or titled. You are you. You may in some way fit into this or that category, but categories are limiting and you are a limitless creation of the Most High God. I want to challenge you to forget about the labels and focus on the life. Let go of the title and instead seek to live the testimony. God has amazing things for you, because you are so much more than anyone can dream or imagine. Enjoy the amazing gift of this incredible life by letting go and just being… 👣

Seven Steps To Living A Life Of Resilience!

One of my favorite series of movies is ROCKY. I love everyone of the movies and have passed that love to the rest of my family and especially my daughters. “Eye Of The Tiger – Girls – Eye OF The Tiger!” I think one of the reasons that so many of us love the Rocky movies is because it is the story of resilience, the ability to get knocked down, get back up and keep on going, no matter what.

Live your life long enough and you are going to get knocked down, but you can’t stay down, because that would not be much of a life would it? As I look back on my life, I have to admit, I have been down many times, but I never stay down, because some how, some where inside of me, my Creator placed a beautiful gift called resilience.

Resilience is about adapting, improvising and learning to overcome. Challenge is a natural part of life that becomes a problem for us, when we resist it. Rather than resisting challenge, we need to learn to embrace it. When we embrace challenge, we learn and grow from it.

At the end of the day, there are only a few things that really matter. Are you thriving or surviving, because God created us to thrive? Are you allowing the love to flow by receiving and sharing love? Are you learning and growing, because this life is all about getting ready for eternity? Are you laughing and enjoying the journey, because life really is a precious gift? We need to get it right, because we all have family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and even strangers that are looking to us for blessing, direction and hope.

Here Are Seven Steps To Living A Life Of Resilience:

1. RELAX! We really do need to learn to chill. I’m not saying that we should not take life seriously, but we don’t need to take ourselves too seriously. Chill out! Take a moment to breathe in, hold it, now breathe out! See, it’s not a big deal after all. I’ve got some very encouraging news for you: The success or failure of this world is not dependent upon you!

2. CHECK YOUR THINKING! There are so many different things that impact our thinking and if we are not careful, we will allow the wrong things, which will lead to stinking thinking. We need to continually check our thinking, where it’s coming from and where it’s going. If our thinking if not right, then we need to fix it.

3. LEARN FROM MISTAKES AND FAILURES! I’ve got some really good news for you. No one expects you to be perfect and if anyone does expect you to be perfect, then they are revealing their imperfection with such an unrealistic expectation. I have always said that if we will learn from a mistake, sin or failure, then it wasn’t a waste, it was an education and people pay big money for an education.

4. REMEMBER YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CHOOSE! You cannot choose for anyone else and no one else can choose for you, but you do have this amazing ability to choose for yourself, what you are going to believe and how you are going to react. Choose wisely!

5. PRACTICE FLEXIBILITY! There is a Japanese Proverb that says: “The bamboo that bends is stronger than the oak that resists.” We have to be flexible in this human experience if our Spirit is going to grow us into what we are called and created to be.

6. SET GOALS! Everyday is an opportunity to experience new and amazing things, but most of us miss the divine, because we allow ourselves to be distracted by stuff that really does not matter in the grand scheme of life. Take a look at your spiritual, mental and physical life and focus on becoming all that you were created to be.

7. GROW YOURSELF! Stop worrying about fixing everybody and everything else and make sure that you are the very best you that you can be, because at the end of the day, if we can get this right, then the promise is that God will take care of the rest.

Conviction Over Condemnation!

There is a big difference between condemnation and conviction. Condemnation is a work of the flesh, while conviction is a work of the Spirit. I spent years trapped in condemnation, while conviction was doing it’s best to try and set me free.

When I woke up this morning, I was thinking about CONDEMNATION. We are so quick to throw it around and many of us use it as a tool to try to beat ourselves or others into submission, only to find that it ultimately does more harm than good.

The truth is: It gets easy to play the blame game, because almost everyone does it. And the more we all do it, the easier it gets. As long as I am blaming someone or something else, then I don’t have to deal with my stuff. The problem with not dealing with my stuff, is that my grave just gets dug a little bit deeper.

In Romans 8:1, the scriptures declare: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…”

The key to that verse after the no condemnation part is being “IN” Christ Jesus. Condemnation is the work of the enemy, but God uses it to teach us that we are not living up to our created potential. Don’t get stuck there, learn your lesson and move on to the beautiful life you were created for. Oh and by the way – don’t get stuck in condemning others either, because that will cause you to miss your blessing too.

The reason we should choose conviction over condemnation is because conviction shows us what we are doing wrong and encourages us to do it right. It’s all about going up to a higher level of living and this is what we were all created for – growth into a blessed person, who shares their blessing with others for God’s glory… 🙏🏻
