When You Pray for Those Who Hurt You, Everything Changes!

“Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.” -Luke 6:28 (KJV)

Friend, if there is one command of Jesus that goes against our natural instincts, it is this one. When someone hurts us, our first reaction is often to defend ourselves, get even, or hold on to the pain. But Jesus calls us to something far greater.

He says, “Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.”

Notice He doesn’t tell us to pretend the hurt never happened. He doesn’t say what they did was right. Instead, He invites us to respond with grace instead of bitterness.

Why? Because bitterness keeps us chained to the past, but forgiveness sets us free. When we pray for those who have wounded us, something remarkable happens. God not only begins to work in their hearts, He also begins to heal ours.

Remember, Jesus lived these very words. As He hung on the cross, suffering for sins He never committed, He prayed, “Father, forgive them.” If our Savior could extend grace in His darkest hour, then through His strength, we can extend grace as well.

Perhaps someone has disappointed you. Maybe harsh words still echo in your mind, or an old wound still lingers in your heart. Today, choose the path Jesus laid before you. Pray instead of retaliating. Bless instead of cursing. Forgive instead of carrying the burden another day.

You may not be able to change someone else’s heart, but you can allow God to transform yours. And there is a peace that comes when you leave justice in God’s hands and walk forward in His love.

Have a blessed day, my friend. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and let His grace flow through your life.
