Someone said: “Control is an illusion!” Ellen Langer, the first woman to become tenured in psychology at Harvard, studied and taught about the illusion of control, where most of us tend to overestimate our ability to control events. In other words, we like to think we are in control, so we do what we must to convince ourselves we are in control, but it is really an illusion or a trick to try and make us feel better.
“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” -Proverbs 16:9
We cannot control the Universe any more than we can control time or the weather. The Universe is unfolding according to the divine plan of God. Any effort we make to try and exercise control can at best or worst, only frustrate and interrupt that plan, which in the long run just ends up costing us.
When we understand and accept that there are some things we can’t control and shouldn’t control, our lives experience the peace we were created for and begin to discover and focus on what we can and should control. We let go of our self will and are free to grab hold of what really matters.
Life is a dance with the Divine and when we learn to allow Divinity to lead, humanity becomes magical and blessed. Stop interfering, let go of the illusion of control, release your grasp on the idea that you and your ego know what is best and learn to relax into the gently unfolding plan of the Divine that brings you peace and blessing to share with others.
