Welcome, friend—I’m glad you’ve pulled up a chair on the front porch of my little corner of the internet. My name is Michael Joe Harvell, and I live my life with one simple mission: to glorify God, encourage people, and leave this world a little better than I found it. I’m a husband, father, pastor, writer, Jeep enthusiast, and front-porch thinker who believes that life is best lived on purpose. I serve as pastor of Eureka Baptist Church in Anderson, South Carolina, where I get the joy of preaching, teaching, and walking with people through the ups and downs of everyday life. Over the years, I’ve discovered that faith isn’t just about Sunday mornings—it’s about living every single day in the presence and power of God. I’m also an author. My books—including The Grace Exchange: How Forgiven People Forgive People and The Word Works—grow out of the sermons, stories, and lessons I’ve learned on this journey. I write in a style that’s conversational, a little front-porch-rocking-chair, and full of stories, quotes, and Scripture that point us back to the goodness of God’s Word. When I’m not writing or preaching, you might find me sitting outside with my Bible and journal, cruising the backroads in my Jeep Gladiator, or sharing a meal and some laughs with the good folks God has put in my life. I love helping people find peace in their spirit, strength in their body, and encouragement in their soul. This blog is simply an extension of that mission. Here you’ll find devotions, encouragement, reflections, and practical insights for living a life of purpose, peace, and joy. So grab a cup of coffee, pull up a rocking chair, and stay awhile—I’d be honored to walk this road of faith with you.

Shine On!

You ever notice how a porch light works? I don’t have to go out in the yard and beg the bugs to come—it just shines, and they show up. Isaiah 60:3 says, “And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.” In other words, when God’s light shines through you, people can’t help but be drawn to it.

This old world is stumbling around in the dark—confused, broken, searching for answers. And God put His Spirit inside of you to be a living lamp, a beacon of hope. You don’t have to force it, fake it, or put on a show. Just walk close with Jesus, let His Word guide your steps, and that light will shine naturally.

Here’s the good news: even a little candle pushes back a whole lot of darkness. Don’t underestimate what God can do through your smile, your kindness, your faithfulness. Somebody’s watching. Somebody’s hungry for hope. Somebody’s about to step out of the shadows and walk toward the brightness of your rising.

So today—shine on, friend. Let God’s light spill off your front porch and into the world, and watch Him draw people not to you, but to Himself.

The Bull Moose Cigar!

When you light up a Bull Moose, you know right away this isn’t some polite, parlor-room puff. This cigar comes charging at you with the strength of its namesake—bold, unflinching, and brimming with the vigor of the American frontier.

It’s the kind of smoke Roosevelt might have clenched between his teeth after a hunt, or that you and I might enjoy on the porch after a long day of real, honest work.

The flavor is stout and earthy, like dark roasted coffee brewed in a cast-iron pot or the worn leather of a trusted saddle. There’s oak, there’s soil, there’s strength in every draw. Yet, it burns steady and true, never fighting you, always walking with you, like a good companion on a trail that stretches far and wide.

This is not a cigar for the timid. It doesn’t whisper “relax.” It looks you square in the eye and says, “Stand tall. Live bold. Get after it.” It’s the kind of smoke you reach for when you’ve got a mountain to climb, a story to finish, or a conviction you refuse to compromise.

The Bull Moose isn’t about luxury—it’s about legacy. It doesn’t just fill the air with smoke; it fills your spirit with resolve.

Whether you’re a Rough Rider charging into the unknown or a out in the yard dreamer charting the next chapter of your life, this cigar is a reminder: be bold, live strong, and leave a trail others will want to follow.

Bully good smoke.

Shine Baby Shine!

Friend, Daniel 12:3 says, “And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.” Now that’s a front-porch promise if I’ve ever heard one! God is telling us that when you choose to live wisely—by trusting Him, walking in His Word, and pointing people toward Jesus—you don’t just make a little ripple here on earth, you light up eternity.

Think about it. Stars don’t stop shining when the night ends. Long after the sun rises, they’re still burning bright. That’s what your influence looks like when you live for Christ. Every act of kindness, every word of encouragement, every time you share the gospel—it’s like hanging another star in God’s sky.

The world is full of darkness, but you don’t have to curse the dark. Just shine. One life at a time. One conversation at a time. And the good news is, you don’t shine in your own strength—you reflect the glory of the Son, Jesus Christ.

So today, don’t hide your light under the bushel of fear, doubt, or busyness. Let it shine! Somebody around you is looking for direction, and God might just use your life to point them toward His righteousness. Live wisely, love boldly, and leave behind a legacy that sparkles like the stars—forever and ever.
