Welcome, friend—I’m glad you’ve pulled up a chair on the front porch of my little corner of the internet. My name is Michael Joe Harvell, and I live my life with one simple mission: to glorify God, encourage people, and leave this world a little better than I found it. I’m a husband, father, pastor, writer, Jeep enthusiast, and front-porch thinker who believes that life is best lived on purpose. I serve as pastor of Eureka Baptist Church in Anderson, South Carolina, where I get the joy of preaching, teaching, and walking with people through the ups and downs of everyday life. Over the years, I’ve discovered that faith isn’t just about Sunday mornings—it’s about living every single day in the presence and power of God. I’m also an author. My books—including The Grace Exchange: How Forgiven People Forgive People and The Word Works—grow out of the sermons, stories, and lessons I’ve learned on this journey. I write in a style that’s conversational, a little front-porch-rocking-chair, and full of stories, quotes, and Scripture that point us back to the goodness of God’s Word. When I’m not writing or preaching, you might find me sitting outside with my Bible and journal, cruising the backroads in my Jeep Gladiator, or sharing a meal and some laughs with the good folks God has put in my life. I love helping people find peace in their spirit, strength in their body, and encouragement in their soul. This blog is simply an extension of that mission. Here you’ll find devotions, encouragement, reflections, and practical insights for living a life of purpose, peace, and joy. So grab a cup of coffee, pull up a rocking chair, and stay awhile—I’d be honored to walk this road of faith with you.

The Moon And Stars!

Step outside and let the coolness of the night wrap itself around you. Above, the moon glows with a quiet majesty, a sentinel in the vast sea of black velvet. Around her, stars scatter like a poet’s dreams, endless and unrestrained. Each one whispers its own story, a tale of creation, wonder, and eternity.

Take the moment to cebrate these celestial companions, to feel the hum of the universe in your chest. Look up and witness the boundless connection between the heavens and your soul. You, too, are part of this grand expanse, every breath in rhythm with the spinning galaxies.

One can’t help, but to marvel at the audacity of it  all. Just imagine a world where those stars were just for show, but here they are and for more than just something for us to look at. They hang in the night sky twinkling their approval or disapproval, and we’re left to wonder which. We laugh at the mystery and embrace the absurdity of trying to understand it.

Linger for just a moment more and breathe deep the cool air scented with pine and dew. This is the cathedral of God’s creation. The stars are his sermons, the moon his hymn. Stand still and let their beauty heal what troubles you.”

With my hearts smile, I’m just an ole man sent here to remind you that the moon and stars were set in the heavens for more than just beauty. “They are there to light your way, to guide you when the world feels dark, and to remind you that the Creator of all such wonders loves you more than you can imagine. Their glow is His grace, shining even in your darkest nights.”

So take a moment tonight to pause. Gaze upward and let the moon and stars speak peace to your heart. You are part of this grand story, and just like the stars, your light matters too. Shine on.

Rainey Days And Smoky Nights!

Evening falls slow like honey tonight, as raindrops dance upon the leaves, wrapping the world in a cool, gentle hush. There’s something about rainy days and smoky nights—a richness and depth that invite us to sit back and breathe deep. The earth is drinking its fill, every drop a reminder that even in times of drought, rain will come again. It reminds us of patience and resilience, of things unseen nourishing the roots beneath.

In this quiet, let yourself be refreshed by the simple, steady pulse of nature. The air, thick with damp, mixes with the scent of smoke—a cozy reminder that warmth and peace are close by, just waiting to be tended to, like a fire crackling on the hearth. Tonight is a call to slow down and let the small things speak, a chance to listen to the wisdom tucked into silence and storm.

So may this rainy, smoky night fill you with the strength and peace you didn’t even know you needed. May you find that even in the quiet, there is life stirring, just as steady and sure as the rain falling softly from the evening sky.
