After Election Advice!

44th President Of The United States Of America!

I was planning on writing a post yesterday, but spent two hours waiting to vote!  I want to take just a moment today, now that this election is over and remind everyone of some things that we as Christians cannot afford to lose sight of!

1.  The election is over and a winner has been declared!  Barack Obama is our 44th President!  You may not like the results or you may love them, but the results are the results and we that are Christians should respect those results and not get side-tracked in frustration or overjoyment!

2.  We still have the same job to do!  Regardless of who wins the White House – our job as followers of Christ has not changed.  We are to go and make disciples!  The election may not have turned out the way that you wanted it to, or it may have turned out exactly the way that you wanted it to, but either way, it does not change the fact that we have a higher calling placed upon our lives by a higher power!  We’ve got work to do, people to encourage, hearts to unburden and lives to change!

3.  Respect is always a good thing!  I was brought up to respect my elders and people in authority!  I have noticed that one of the big things that is missing in our society today is RESPECT!  Most of the young do not respect their elders, because they have not been taught by example from their parents.  When I was a boy – Ministers, Doctors, Policemen, Firemen and Community Leaders were respected!  Now a days, people that serve our community by fulfilling these positions are analyzed, criticized and joked about on a regular basis!

We as Christians need to bring honor to God by being respectful.  So don’t tell that joke and don’t listen to that joke.  Instead of criticizing, take the time to pray for our leaders and most especially our President.  Regardless of what happens in elections – God is still on the Throne!  God deserves our best and most dedicated service and our country needs it now.  So, if your candidate won, don’t gloat and rub it in!  If your candidate lost don’t attack and tear down the other person!  Just remember who you are and who you belong to and get busy building His Kingdom and bringing glory to His name!

  1. I have to admit I was almost “fretful” about how the election would turnout but in a discussion with Tommy, God spoke through me and said “no matter who wins, we just have to remember WHO is ultimately in control”. I am confident these had to be words from God because my state of mind wasn’t allowing me to think so clearly and as trite as it may sound out loud, oh what peace my soul has now!

  2. I Started not to go Vote, because of the Long Lines. But we did and it only took 5 minutes to get in there and out.But then again I think it should have been a long line, and I think I need to be a more Productive Christian and I could have Witnessed. But yes We need to Pray for Mr.President, and for our Country.I wouldnt want that Job.I honestly wanted Colin Powell to Run.Much Love and God Bless…

  3. MJ,
You forgot one category of respected folk from ‘us old folk’…believe it or not SCHOOL TEACHERS were well thought of and I still remember as I entered the first grade the lengthy conversation my father had with me…”You get in trouble at school you get more trouble when you get home.”
“I don’t want you to ever come home and tell me how bad your teacher is.” Well, that lengthy conversation kept me in line for all those years.
My life was blessed with wonderful teachers who started school each day with Bible reading and a prayer…guess we’ve really come a long way huh.

And, Roasted ‘Preacher’ was never served at our house on Sunday or any other day.

I can still remember, at night, my parents calling their children in for Bible reading and prayer.

  4. Thanks MJ,

For the wonderful advice. We too, waited in line for about two hours & when folks started to complain I just had to remind them of how many lives have been lost so we could have the privilege
to vote & live in a democracy. GOD has blessed us in many ways & yes, HE remains KING of KINGS & LORD of LORDS. AMEN!

  5. I never once looked for the results lastnight. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. As a Christian, I fear for those who aren’t and with that am determined to wittness more and more. Obvilously, I didn’t vote for our new President. Like MJ, I was taught to respect my elders and leaders. Even when Clinton made his mistakes, he was still Commander and Chief! I prayed for him and his family and all that suffered. I will now pray harder and harder that God will not be fogotten and that people know that GOD is the King and Commander and Chief of ALL!!!!!!!!! Gods will be done!!! love and prayers, jerilynn

  6. Well, the election was definitely a blow for me, and as far as I’m concerned, for anyone who is a Christian. And as some of my friends pointed out, God is in control, and he already knew who was going to win. However, now we need to be in fervent prayer that we as Christians will not be complacent and we will take a stand for Christ. We also need to continually pray for wisdom for our leadership, because if they fail, we all fail. I want to celebrate briefly the AMAZING victory that we had in the California Amendment number 8. The state of California took a stand and voted for an amendment to their Constitution to keep marriage between a man and a woman. Praise God! Arizona and Florida also voted the same way. So, in the midst of the darkness, God provided us with a ray of light. Now, let us not be complacent and let these victories go to waste. I pray that every day we will all take a stand for Christ.

  7. M J I too thought today how beautiful God has made this earth. I went to the Library at lunch time and sat in the garden on a bench. You Know we may not like who was voted in to be our President but God is in control. Every one that complains should just pray for the President and rebuke the devil in him. We all love our country and how are we going to look to the non christian when we complain all the time. As Tim Russert said at the end of each election in 2004 (Fla Fla Fla) WE can say REBUKE REBUKE REBUKE the DEVIl every thing is in God’s hand he is coming for us lets be ready.

  8. I understand that God has complete control. On that note, there happens to be an email where someone makes the good point of God giving the people what they want. This email sparked my curiosity(sp) and I encourage you all to read 1 Samuel chapter 8. It also makes makes me wonder how many times I’ve chosen the wrong thing for myself not listening to God.
