This morning I woke up and thought: “I need to go work out!”, but I talked myself out of it! I then went into the den and had my devotion time with the Lord and the Holy Spirit got all over me about the fact that I needed to go and work out. When I finished my devotion time – I went and worked out and guess what? I survived to talk about it, in fact – l loved it! I feel great!
While I was working out – I was talking with one of our church members and could not help but realize that for a lot of people have the same battle spiritually to have a daily time with God as the battle that I have physically to have a daily time with the treadmill! We know that we need to do it, we just can’t convince ourselves to get things going. We want to and then we don’t want to! We start thinking of all of the reasons why we can’t or why we shouldn’t. The result is rather than getting stronger – we get weaker and sicker and then some stress blows into our lives and we are really in trouble!
As I discovered this morning – if my spiritual is right then I am going to have to work to make my physical right too! I’ve got a feeling that you know what I am talking about. So get up and talk to God and listen to God! You know – The Creator of the Universe really has some intereting things to say! Get up and get busy physically by allowing God to get you in shape so that you can enjoy the things that He has created! It is a tough battle, but we can win it!
MJ, Why did you have to write about physical fitness today? I do not want to hear about it, but when my “spiritual shepherd” speaks I must take note. I know that I should keep myself fit physically, and I intend to, but I just never seem to do it.
So, what am I do about this erroneous habit? You have given the answer. I need to pray and ask for God’s strength and more than that, I should also be expecting and preparing to exercise.
With that said, maybe I will go to the shoe sale tomorrow and purchase a much needed pair of new walking shoes. Be on the lookout for walkers in the neighborhood! It just might be me.
Come on down Dot! The ‘hood is bustling with walkers in the early evenings! I love to walk with the dog and watch the beautiful sunsets God paints. It does more than just get your body “fit” but, spiritually reminds me of God’s omnipresence and helps me remember that if He can orchestrate such a spectacular sunset, and have the Holy Spirit bring reassuring scriptures to my mind at the same time, He surely loves and cares for me and that I matter in His kingdom! T. =)
